Sophie, Carnegie and Cake

The House with Chicken Legs

I would give this book a 6 out of 10 because I thought the idea was great and I loved how the author portrayed the idea of the story. However there were a few aspects I didn't like: a) I thought the main character was very selfish and mean and I couldn't connect with her whatsoever; she was really mean and ungrateful to the house (who I thought was a very nice and loving character); b) I thought she was very selfish when she didn't let the young girl Nina see her sister and c) I thought that the main character was a boy - I had a perfect image of the boy in my head and then the book started talking about her long curly ginger hair and I looked at the front cover and realized it was a girl! This really threw me off! Another bit I didn't like was the house reunion - I thought it was very confusing as it was talking about some people and their houses (as if they were only about 10 houses) and then suddenly they where talking as if there were 100's! I had a picture in my head of some flat land and then it started talking about a hill and changed the scenery. Next it started talking about a random roller coaster etc.. This really messed up my head and from around that point the book went really down hill for me and I hated the ending! Although i have said lots of negatives about the book, this was an original storyline with lots to enjoy I feel I did really enjoy it and love the basic ideas behind the story. :)
