Annliya, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
The Poet X
The Poet X is an emotional book about the trials and tribulations of school life along with being religious. Xiomara's parents don't truly support her passion for poetry or that she doesn't really believe in her faith anymore whereas her brother, best friend and mother are very devout.
Gender equality is touched upon in the booK with X not always being accepted for not behaving in the way that they community wants her to and the way she pushes boundaries to stand up for herself is quite inspiring.
Xiomara's friendships are tested and her growth as a character draws the reader in and the relatable moments allow the reader to engage with her fully.
I would recommend this book for an enlightening read.
