A Skinful of Shadows

‘A skinful of shadows’ by Frances Hardinge was an excellent read. As you read the book, you follow the journey Makepeace takes to fully understand what is worse: possession or death. At the beginning, the story is slow, then when Makepeace discovers the answer to a question she has wanted to know for her whole life, everything changes! The book covers various themes including power, family, ghosts and war. The story is set when the country is under Charles I’s rule and has many facts within the storyline about the English civil war. The main character Makepeace is an average girl but after discovering the truth she becomes more than that. You can imagine being Makepeace throughout the book and as you read you begin to feel what she feels. The book is a delightful read and everything thing I expected it to be and more. I would recommend this book if you want a story you can never put down until the end.
