The Poet X
The Poet X is a young adult book by Elizabeth Acevedo. It follows the life of Xiomara, also known as X, that writes poetry to get through conflict in her family.
The book itself is a well-written novel and the slam-poetry style of the book helps portray Xiomara's feelings and thoughts. Throughout the book Xiomara, as a character, changes as different events occur when the plot moves stably forward. The plot was believable which created a relationship between the reader and Xiomara and the story was compelling and realistic. The language the author used was onomatopoeic, which helped develop the plot and built the mood. The ending was unexpected, which made it satisfying to finish reading the book.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book because it had a well-thought-out and lifelike plot that multiple people could relate to. I would recommend anyone to read this book, purely because it opens people's eyes on how different cultures and religious societies portray women and girls as.
